yay, finally got my portrait project up and on the digital railroad and the sun is not quite made it up yet. now i have to pack for my trip to cardiff and "big pit" and my story about theme park britain. still have yet to write my thoughts of the Alfredo Jaar exhibition from last week, and the books i have ben reading... Camera Lucida-Roland Barthes and Between the Eyes (essays on photography and poitics)-David Levi Strauss... which had made me want to see the Alfredo Jaar exhibition in the first place (oh, and of course mark's blog write up too, i notice he didn't mention the film... for an artist i would have to say Jaars use of words and appropriated material had far more visual impact on me than his images)
i am not going to write about the Salvation Army shoot, all 20 minutes of it. they were really nice people but it needed more time and more uniforms. i did pretty badly and made the kind of pictures i hate which is really unsettling.
it's light now... hmmm

Have you seeen the film the london no one knows , a documentry from the 60s with James mason. There is a part about the salvation army, interviews from then ect when it was flourishing ( is it still ?) I have a copy if you want to come over and see it one day. would be nice to meet up ? got a copy of the between the eyes, very interesting, and suprisingly easy to read thanks
Hello you... I am also reading the Levi Strauss book now (amongst tons of other ones, there is too much I want to read and I read it all together!!!) Funny thing that 5 minutes ago I also received a mail from a friend who was reading the very same book. Shame that the exibition will be closed next time I am in london... was it good? Good luck with the project. Shame you did not like the salvation army one, but is it a case of you being too self-critical?
thanks lizzie, i do have a copyit's a great film, and quite funny in hindsight when he talks about brick lane.
and yes lets meet up, i feel bad you being in london and us not having met yet. am away for a few days for the story project, but back next week and will email you then.
silva, i actually didn't like the exhibition that much. the kevin carter piece was powerful, but everything else was nothing like the chapter in the book. i would really have liked to have seen some of those ones... or maybe levi strauss just makes them sound more interesting!
i like the way it is written, and enjoyed the first 3/4 but did you find by the end the topics got a bit dull... or maybe that is just me,i'd be interested to hear your thoughts.
